Music Director's Music Digest: Mid-February!

After a very very long time, I’m happy to say I’m back! And I’m still gonna be sharing all my favorites with y’all every other week (maybe every week??? I honestly don’t know yet)! Typically, I just fixate on artists or a specific genre each week and cycle them out so quickly but, lately it’s kinda a jumbled mess. I’d be lying if I said that the majority of this playlist isn’t filled with extremely sappy love songs that I’ve spent most of my last few weeks listening to. But, I’d also be lying if I said that there weren't some heavy techno bangers on there either (gotta cheer up my walk to class somehow).

Lately, I’ve been indulging in a lot of music of the past that never seems to grow old to me from Jay Som to Kurt Vile to Yumi Zouma and all the way to Shygirl. And, part of that comfort music list includes the one and only, George Clanton. It’s no secret I love George Clanton….like...a lot and I can already tell that from my listening habits since mid january, my top spot 2021 spotify wrapped is gonna be reserved just for him. But, anyways I wish I could add the entirety of Slide to this playlist (because it is still one of my favorite albums ever) but, I just thought I would give you my favorites instead.

This new year for me has kind of reinvigorated a love for finding new music that I’ve never really given a chance such as Japanese city pop and even some French pop???? Exciting I guess! But, even more importantly there has been so much wonderful new music that is being released this year! These new records from CHAI and Smerz….I can already tell they’re gonna be incredible just from the singles. And I know it’s still way too early to be compiling my favorite music of 2021 but Bicep, Shame, and CHAI really came out of the gate swingin’. Anyways, enjoy all this and I hope you find something new from it. Catch ya later!
