Consisting of three life-long friends from Miami, Florida: Andy Zambrana, Alex Ramon, and Andres Baquerizo, The Polar Boys are a fresh sound to the Miami music scene. For the past three years, The Polar Boys have been mastering their craft, effortlessly blending an eclectic genre of sounds ranging from alternative to hip-hop, and pushing the envelope that once limited their scope. Having spent quarantine locked up and working on their craft, the group sat down to talk about their upcoming singles being released, culminating in their debut EP- World Domination, coming out this Spring.

On March 4, The Polar boys dropped their first single from their upcoming project, “BLACK DOG.” A modern indie-rock song, that draws from the sounds of classic bands like The Bee Gees, the single is unlike anything the Polar Boys have ever released. Aptly titled after their black labrador Ace, who can always be seen around them when recording, “BLACK DOG” strays from the norm for the Polar Boys, creating an unpredictable evolution of their sound. Throwing any expectations of what the Polar Boys might be, the new single comes as a surprise to avid long-time listeners. Out of line from their regular releases, the darker almost eerie tone of the song invites a new fusion of sound, utilizing synths and bleeding melodies “BLACK DOG” sets the tone for just what the Polar Boys can achieve. Using electronic drumkits and samples, the band aimed to stray away from their original sound and completely immerse themselves in a new way of thinking and writing music.

“BLACK DOG” showcases just how talented this group is, they’re able to effortlessly switch into new genres while maintaining some of their old sounds. “BLACK DOG” is a welcome change from their retro-surf rock origins and an exciting glimpse into their future songs. Their upcoming project introduces a new audience to their music and separates them from their other releases. Keeping people on their toes, their next single will explore a whole different sound than “BLACK DOG,” encouraging the listener to fill in the blanks and leave them wondering what this group is going to release next. The single is accompanied by a mini-video visualizer, which only enhances the experiences. Describing it as ”something that looks like it came out of The Nightmare Before Christmas” the animation is a gorgeous cluster of ideas that come together as a cohesive piece that fits the unique sound of the single.

Though the pandemic has put a halt on their live-shows, the Polar Boys are only moving forward with force. Their new project is unlike anything they’ve ever done and opens a new realm of exploration for the band. With a clear vision of what they want and taking inspiration from all sides of the musical spectrum, The Polar Boys are have gone past the status-quo and set a new sound for years to come.
